2024 Spring Team Tennis Notes

Change in Rules for 2024

  • A player only needs to play 2 regular season matches. At the least, one match needs to be a real match and the other can be an exhibition match to make 2 total. The exhibition match does need to be recorded from the coach to the league cordinator.

  • Players may not play orange ball and green ball at the same time. Once a player moves to green with points, they cannot go back down to orange.

  • If you have 2 teams in the same division, you will need to make sure they play a match against themselves within the 1st 2 weeks of play and set up through your specific club.

  • Team going undefeated in a season and still behind in games will have a playoff with the first place team. The 2 teams will play straight up with no games being needed to win if one team has less games won in the season.

  • Now all 3rd set TBs will be to 10 points.

  • Home team is responsible for inputting matches however either day can do it. If home team does not input matches by monday night, Tuesday morning their 2 doubles will be defaulted and if they did not have a 2 doubles team play, the next doubles team will be defaulted and so forth.

  • Any no shows will be a default. That said, the pro will do anything they can do make sure the opposing team still has matches for that said player(s).

Confidence Ratings and Adding Players to Your Team

  • Low confidence rating players will be allowed to sign up for their appropriate and any division, based on the recommendation of their personal or JTT coach.

  • For Medium confidence level, players will be allowed to join another division within 2 rating points.

  • For instance, a 30 with medium confidence will be allowed to join Novice if the coach vouches for the player's rating to be artificially better than their actual level.

  • High confidence….. your stuck :)

  • A coach is allowed to move one player into another lower level if they are within 1 WTN point of qualifying for that said division. Example. If a 31 wants to play in the Level 7 with their friends this will be allowed.

Discussion and Notes

  • Teams must remain in the division registered at the cut off date. No moves or changes to divisions once the season begins.

  • For 18s, at least 50% of the team must be 15 yrs old or above.

  • Exhibition matches still get WTN credit

  • If you need a help with insurance, USTA will provide a certificate of insurance for your match site if needed.

  • Everyone voted to not have matches scheduled on Easter or the day of the USPTA convention. Mothers day is still up in the air based on how many weeks are given to play matches and still have enough time to qualify for sectionals.

  • Fee and Shirt: New entry fee is $30 with the extra $5 going towards a shirt for each player who signs up.

  • Number of players to have one a team is between 9-10 for the sweet spot in order to always have a line up ready for the 6 needed.

  • Exhibition matches count toward WTN ranking so this is great!

  • Monday is the day to reach out to your opposing coach at the latest to check in with them on how many players you have.

10s Orange and Green Ball Notes

  • 100 points will be awarded to all 10s for playing in the season.

  • Green ball players will also receive 100 win points per singles win, 50 per doubles win and up to a max of 400 points per season.

  • Note a def will count as a win for green ball.

  • Thats……. max of 500 points per season for green ball.

  • If you are the home team and host, you as a coach are responsible for taping the lines (10s Orange only)

Coaching and Days

  • All matches are scheduled for Sundays

  • If you as a coach cannot make a day, make sure you have a parent or another coach who can fill your spot. They should be safeplay certified. If not, they will only be able to set the line up with intros of players. They will not be allowed on court to coach throughout the entire match. You can also add your assistant to your usta team page as long as they have an active usta membership.
